Conservative Senator Tom Coburn Endorses Julio Gonzalez for Congress

(Venice, Fla.) – Former U.S. Senator Tom Coburn, who earned the nickname “Dr. No” while serving in Congress because of his opposition to increased government spending, has announced his endorsement of Dr. Julio Gonzalez for Congress.

“We need thoughtful, constitutional conservatives in Congress, who fill focus on debt-reduction and limiting the size and scope of the federal government, and that’s why I support Julio Gonzalez for Congress,” said Coburn.  “Julio is a doctor, veteran, and small businessman and his experience has prepared him to be an impactful voice for conservatives.  He’s the right man for the job.”

Coburn, a medical doctor, is a strong supporter of term limits, and served in the Senate from 2005-2015.  Dr. Coburn was first elected to the Congress in 1994 as part of the “Republican Revolution” but retired after three terms honoring his term limits pledge.

“Dr. Coburn is one of the most principled leaders to serve in the Senate, demonstrating through word and deed his commitment to the Constitution and the ‘citizen legislator’ envisioned by the Founders,” said Gonzalez.  “I’m very proud to have his support and hope to emulate him as a member of Congress.”

Dr. Julio Gonzalez is a surgeon, attorney, and U.S. Navy veteran.  A successful small businessman, he manages a practice in Venice with 6 employees and treating 5,000 patients throughout the region.  A member of the Florida House of Representatives, Dr. Gonzalez is a conservative leader who received an A from the NRA, and pro-business scores of 96% from the Florida Chamber of Commerce and 100% from Associated Industries of Florida.  He has been endorsed by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.  To learn more, visit
